The instructions are convoluted and annoying. It was “successfully installed” but the printer did not appear in my list and would not work. Shortly after installation my hard drive died. I don’t know if there is a connection but I would not risk a new drive and returned the printer. I wonder if it is Snow Leopard compatible.

Researched several printers, and the whole process is confusing. But the review for the cannon printers seemed better than HP, so I chose the Cannon MX340. The setup was a nightmare. The instruction manual is very confusing, and the installation disk didn’t help to clarify the setup problems. It took me several hours to finally get the wireless aspect working. I almost packed it up and returned it. The worst part is the noise. It is VERY loud, and clunky types of noises happen at length with every print job. So even if you just print one page, you must sit through this clunking noise before and after the print job. I would not recommend this printer. Unfortunately, I’m seeing the same “noise” complaints with some of the HP’s also.

So far this printer is doing great. The display setup up is kind of confusing, I don’t know if it totally quits when the ink is gone in one cartridge or what. Haven’t read the manual on that yet. I have heard great things about the canon printers so when my epson needed a new printhead I decided to try a canon. If you are looking at Epson printers be aware that you have to have the printhead replaced by a professional, which usually cost more that the printer. But if I understand it correctly the canon printhead can be replaced by you. That would be a plus if it is true. The wireless option is great! Very easy to set up if you have a network. I have two PC’s that are networked to my main PC and when my daughter or grand daughter come over they can print to it with no problem.

I recently bought the Canon MX340 after working with a HP PCS series for a couple of years. I loved the HP but the Canon has so much more to offer. It’s bigger but not by much.
The one area That canon has fallen down on is their software. Specifically the scanner software. If you are using the document feeder to scan multiple pages, the scanner makes a ridiculous number of duplicates that are saved to your PC. It also misnames most of the duplicates. This forces you to spend a lot of time checking and deleting a lot of useless images.
IF Canon fixed the scanner software they would have a 5 star product.

I bought this printer because it received such good reviews from this site. The fax does not work. The photo print feature states it can’t print because there is no usb connection when there is. An 8×10 letter can print but a photo cannot. The scanner magnifies anything scanned in to 8×10 size when I want it to scan to the actual size. What a headache!

Also find the troubleshooting manual very confusing/unclear.
Thus far impossible to delete images I’ve scanned. No problem flipping images, but then how to delete original scan I can’t figure out. So many duplicates on file now it’s ridiculous.
